MGR - About Merry Go Round

Who are We?

We are a group of single men and women living around the Thames Valley, all from professional backgrounds, who for one reason or another find ourselves on our own. Our age range is from 45 upwards, with the average age of our members between 50 and 60 years of age. The club aims to attract its members from towns such as: Ascot, Bracknell, Henley, High Wycombe, Maidenhead, Marlow, Reading, Slough, Twyford, Windsor and Wokingham.

Our Aim

To provide opportunities for members to get out and about, to make new friends and acquaintances, to share common interests, to participate in or start new activities, and through friendship to help each other.

When was MGR founded?

MGR was founded in 1978 as a club for single people (i.e. single by virtue of being bereaved, divorced or never married). Since then MGR has been successfully developed by successive management committees into a club of around 250 lively people with wide ranging interests and backgrounds.

a club for single peopleHow is the Club run?

By a management committee (elected at Annual General Meetings) who endeavour to ensure the successful administration of the club. Each month a comprehensive programme of events is planned, organised and then published in an MGR Newsletter and Programme. On the last Tuesday of each month MGR has a Club Night at which members come to collect their new programme from their Area Contact. New and Prospective Members are introduced to other members at Club Night.
